Call for Papers for the special issue of the Model Assisted Statistics and Applications (MASA)

Мероприятие завершено
Dear Colleagues, we are happy to inform you about the launched call for papers for the special issue of the Model Assisted Statistics and Applications (MASA) devoted to commemoration of Professor Sergey Aivazian. Special issue is envisaged for publication in the fourth quarter of 2020. The journal team encourage paper submissions by  May 1, 2020  in the domain of applied statistics that was the area of research interests of Professor Aivazian.

Please, see more information about Professor Aivazian and his research interests, as well as about the MASA journal below.

Professor Sergey Aivazian (1934-2019)

URL: https://www.hse.ru/en/org/persons/314460253/

He graduated from the M.V. Lomonosov Moscow State University in 1957. In 1967 he obtained the candidate of sciences degree (an equivalent of the PhD degree) and in 1975 - the doctor of sciences degree (more an equivalent to a tenure position). In 1969 he joined the Central Economics and Mathematics Institute (CEMI). The institute was a think tank to model the soviet economy at that times. Mostly since the creation of the quantitative methods for economic analysis chair at the Higher School of Economics in 1992 he joined it. In 2008 he was elected as a foreign member of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia. In 2017 he was assigned the award of the Russian Academy of Sciences devoted to L.V. Kantorovich.

Research interests of professor Aivazian included the following:

  1. Multivariate distributions reconstruction, including modeling mixtures of distributions and financial econometrics;
  2. Dependence analysis, including correspondence, correlation, commonotonicity analysis, as well as copulas;
  3. Classification problems (supervised learning; discriminant analysis);
  4. Clusterisation problems (unsupervised learning; cluster-analysis);
  5. Tasks of reducing the dimensions of the observed object (principal components analysis);
  6. Tasks of enhancing the dimensions of the observed object (multidimensional scaling);
  7. Expert knowledge processing including the analysis of socio-economic data on the development of Russian regions.

Papers dealing with the efficiency benchmarking of conventional econometric tools and recent machine learning technics are also welcomed.

And articles on memories about Aivazian can be supplied.

The Model Assisted Statistics and Application (MASA) journal, IOS Press is an international peer-reviewed journal. For more information on the journal, please, visit the web-page:

https://www.iospress.nl/journal/model-assisted-statistics-and-applications/

The journal principal focus is on applied statistics issues. This primarily means solving the challenges of researching real-world data. It also includes justification of certain rules of thumb or elbow methods for the tools that cannot be analytically proven. This is often the case when real-world data generation processes do not follow multivariate normal distribution.

MASA is indexed in Scopus as a quartile 3 in applied mathematics and modeling and simulation domains persistently during 2013-2018.

Submission and publication in MASA are free of charge.

Submissions of papers in PDF format are required both in unblind and blind versions.
Look forward to receiving your papers!
