Risk Assessment and Financial Regulation in Emerging Markets' Banking
Subtitle: Trends and Prospects

Editors: Alexander Karminsky, Tenured Professor, National research university Higher school of economics, School of Finance, Russia; Paolo Emilio Mistrulli, Professor, Structural Economic Analysis Department, Bank of Italy; Mikhail Stolbov, Professor, Head of Department, MGIMO University; Yong Shi, Professor, University of Nebraska, Omaha, United States.

Brief Description:
Our primary goal is to present a methodology for assessing and modeling banking risks in large emerging capital markets, where institutional and competitive frameworks still differ from developed ones. To achieve this goal we examine various types of risks and instruments, and focus specifically on credit and market risks, integrated and payment risks, and systemic risks and innovations in banking and risk management. We aim to analyze the developments in different approaches to the above-mentioned risks in emerging markets, and to identify the extent of the aggregation of these risks. In particular, we look in detail at the experiences of banking systems in Russia, Belarus, China, and Brazil. We place an emphasis on examining systemic risk, financial contagion in banking, and macroprudential regulation. For an in-depth analysis, we combine a systemic perspective with a microeconomic point of view. This approach is unique as compared to other books covering similar topics, and distinguishes this book in terms of originality.
Our results have been presented at international conferences and workshops which took place at the National Research university - Higher School of Economics (Russia) in 2018-2019 where topics related to systemic risks were discussed.  The team of authors represents experienced professionals and authorities from public and private banks, rating and consulting agencies, and leading universities around the world. This book will be of interest to students of finance-related disciplines and practicing experts in banking and other financial activities.
This book will be of interest to professors, researchers, graduate students and practitioners thanks to empirical data on current trends in financial risk measuring and management. It includes the aspects of modeling financial risks, compiling ratings and features of risk assessment in banks in emerging markets. The reader will not only be able to acquire knowledge about the difference between emerging and developed markets, but also figure out current trends in the development of risk management approaches in banks. It may be helpful for readers to download separate chapters of the book, as each of them may have its own added value to a potential audience.
